PuTTY: A Free Win32 Telnet/SSH Client

Putty is a small and easy to use ssh client for Windows. Use of ssh will allow you to connect to a remote computer and operate that machine as if you were sitting in front of it. The use of ssh is a secure way to connect, telnet is NOT secure. Putty offers both telnet and ssh. Putty is also very small to download and requires no installation, just click and go. Using Putty and a shell account are a great way to learn Linux.
